  1. Welcome to Graphics Converter Gold version 3.0
  2.  
  3. This file contains up-to-date notes regarding this release of 
  4. Graphics Converter Gold.
  5.  
  6. MPEG Video Files
  7. Although MPEG video files are supported, the required MCI driver
  8. (MCIMPEG.DRV) is not automatically installed. If 
  9. you do not have this driver, MPEG files will not import 
  10. properly. The MCIMPEG.DRV is usually supplied with the 
  11. software to your MPEG board.
  12.  
  13. CorelDraw Files
  14. CorelDraw support is currently limited to Importing 
  15. versions 4.0, 5.0, and 6.0 .CDR files. Because 
  16. there is no Corel (.CDR) export filter, all Corel files 
  17. are, by default, compressed "intact" when imported. This
  18. has the same effect as selecting the "LZH - Size" option
  19. in the Storage Method dialog box. No decoding into an 
  20. interim Windows Metafile format is performed until necessary
  21. (Showing, Printing, Exporting, etc.). To Export the file 
  22. in Corel format, check the "Native Format" option in the 
  23. Export dialog box.

  25. Sound File Compression
  26. In the Full Resolution "Show" Window, the option to 
  27. "Update Sound" under the File menu topic will 
  28. compress/recompress the attached sound if it has been 
  29. recorded and/or changed while viewing the image in that 
  30. mode. The update is then permanently made to that file's 
  31. entry in the Library.

  33. Video Driver Compatibility
  34. In an attempt to gain as much performance as possible, 
  35. some video driver and card manufacturers implement atypical 
  36. methods for handling video.  
  37.  
  38. If you experience problems playing video files within 
  39. Graphics Converter Gold, try playing  the video file 
  40. with your Windows media player.  If it does not work, 
  41. try different video modes to find one that does.
  42.  
  43. ATI Mach video cards and drivers do not play video objects 
  44. in the 256 color mode.  If you experience difficulty with 
  45. playing video files, use the ATI configuration software 
  46. that came with your video card to reconfigure the video settings.
  47.  
  48. If thumbnail quality is poor, choosing a different video 
  49. mode may improve quality.
  50.  
  51. When converting files from one format to another, graphics 
  52. quality may suffer.  This is usually due to trying to 
  53. promote a "lesser" image into a more sophisticated image.  
  54. One-bit images do not have sufficient information (i.e., 
  55. color palette) to produce a suitable 24 bit color image.
  56.  
  57. File Export 
  58. Graphics Converter Gold does not export Kodak Photo CD 
  59. (*.PCD) file format.  Other files cannot be converted into 
  60. this formats. 
  61.  
  62. Miscellaneous:
  63. Graphics Converter Gold has the ability to import *.EXE 
  64. files.  If you import them by reference, Graphics Converter 
  65. Gold can be used as a program manager.  If you import 
  66. them using any other method, make sure all DLLs invoked by an
  67. EXE are in the path statement in your autoexec.bat file.. 
  68. Otherwise, if you try to execute them, an EXE's will not 
  69. find it's DLLs and will not run.

  71. During certain operations, such as printing or drag and 
  72. drop, some formats (such as, CorelDraw CDR files), may 
  73. appear to function slowly due to  the processing involved 
  74. with that format.
  75.  
  76. If you tag multiple font images in the library and display 
  77. them using Edit|Show (or the "eye" in the toolbar), all files 
  78. will look alike.  View font files individually (i.e., open the 
  79. Show window for one font at a time) to avoid this problem.

  81. When running Graphics Converter Gold, be sure there is 
  82. adequate hard disk space available.  Converting graphics 
  83. from one format to another requires two to three times the 
  84. disk space of the original file's size.
